This building, like many of the buildings in the Old Town is owned by a Turk and the Greek who rents it financed the restoration himself.ĭuring the Turkish occupation, strict rules were in place for the times of who and who could not enter the old town.
Visitors can enjoy drinks in the open-air cafe on the terrace by the entrance to the tower. Unfortunately, the four small windows at knee height do not allow a great panorama view of the old town.
For An entry fee of EUR 5,00, one can enter and climb the 53 steep wooden steps to reach the viewing area, passing on the way historic photos showing the restoration work that the clock tower has undergone. Just a short distance from the Hafiz Ahmed Agha Library is the Roloi Clock Tower, built in the seventh century, and damaged by an explosion in 1856, it was rebuilt with baroque elements and a perfect working clock by Fethi Pasha in 1852.
